Saving Nearly 100 Lives: Kempower Hosts Fall Blood Drive

Kempower North America hosted its first blood drive at its new manufacturing plant in Durham, NC bringing employees together to support The Blood Connection during a critical time of need.

With the goal of collecting 30 pints of blood from 30 donors, Kempowerians surpassed that goal by donating enough blood to save nearly 100 lives!

This event highlights Kempower’s commitment to building a culture of care, with employees from across departments stepping up to donate.

Heather Cook, Production Supervisor, one of the more than 30 team donors; shared a personal connection, “A loved one of mine once needed blood, and that experience inspired me to give back. I’m grateful that Kempower encourages us to take time for something as important as blood donation.”

Why Companies Like Kempower Should Focus on Transportation-Related Blood Needs

As a company rooted in the transportation and green energy sector, Kempower recognizes the close link between road safety and the need for blood donations.

According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation #NCDOT crashes on state roads lead to approximately 1,400 serious injuries each year.

Nationwide, the Federal Highway Administration #FHWA reports that severe crashes result in over 30,000 hospitalizations annually, many of which require urgent blood transfusions. Blood donations are a critical resource in the aftermath of these crashes.

Kempower is stepping up not just as a leader in electric vehicle charging solutions, but also as a leader in addressing community needs within our reach.

Statistics That Matter:

  • Every 2 seconds: Someone in the U.S. requires blood.
  • One pint of blood can save up to three lives.
  • 36,000 units of red blood cells are needed daily across the country.
  • Despite the need, only 10% of eligible donors give blood, leaving a large gap in the supply.

Erin Johnston, Interim Director at Kempower, emphasized the importance of hosting a blood drive on company grounds.

“At Kempower, we strive to create a workplace culture that extends beyond just doing business. Hosting a blood drive allows our employees to give back to the community in a meaningful way, and it aligns with our mission to not only innovate in transportation but also contribute to the safety and well-being of those affected by road-related injuries,” said Johnston.

Kempower hopes to increase participation in future events, making blood donations a consistent part of its company culture. If you want to get your organization involved in hosting a drive; reach out to The Blood Connection today: https://thebloodconnection.org/donors/host-a-drive/
